First weeks of Year 7
Our Year 7 students have launched into 2021 – we can’t wait to watch them soar!
Some standout moments from the week include:
- The first day where students came together with the 2021 student leaders and teachers to experience their first taste of learning at State High. Highlights from the day include the paper plane launch and the War Cry – students were actively engaged in building school culture, which was fantastic.
- Students learning about the ‘State High way’ regarding routines and uniform during Academia, Resilience and Careers (ARC) class and assembly. I have loved walking the corridors and seeing students lined up with their resources, ready to learn. As I walk through classrooms, students have been able to articulate the learning goals of the lesson and when they leave, they do so respectfully and in impeccable uniforms.
- Last Monday, all Year 7 students and Year 10 Peer Supporters participated in their first Peer Support session for the term. This peer-led program, held on Monday afternoons from Week 2 to 7 during Term 1, is designed to assist our Year 7 students in developing connections with others, as well as the skills, understandings, attitudes and strategies to succeed in high school. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching students build connections with each other, with their peer supporters and teachers during the Peer Support afternoon, in classes and at lunch times.
- Seeing students grapple with the Learning Pit. Transitioning to high school is a big step for all students and it’s been wonderful seeing students step outside their comfort zone and overcome challenges. Keep embracing these learning opportunities, Year 7 students!
