Prefects

Leadership Camp
Last Sunday, 31 January, the Prefect group, accompanied by Miss Simons, Miss Packer and Mr Haynes, travelled to Moreton Island to partake in a leadership development and team building camp.
Over the three days, the Prefects underwent group development sessions, which allowed for important reflection and alignment on our strengths as a team. We were able to discuss the key values that resonated best with us, which provided direction for our initiatives and goals we have planned for 2021.
As part of these sessions, Dr Neil Carrington, CEO of Act for Kids, joined us to reinforce messages about leading self and others.
Along with our group discussions, the Prefect team participated in many activities on Moreton Island, which helped us come together as a team and get to know one another better. A highlight for many of us was the snorkelling around the wrecks, closely followed by the desert safari trip and wild dolphin feeding. It was an amazing experience to see Australian wildlife up close and personal whilst learning about them. These activities, along with the group development sessions, allowed for us to understand each other’s values on a deeper level, creating a strong family-like bond. This bond will allow for the success and precision of the Prefect group in the school’s centenary year.
The camp provided opportunity to build rapport with a foundation of trust and motivation to allow effective collaboration for the upcoming year ahead.
We would like to thank Miss Packer, Miss Simons, Miss Jordan, Mr Haynes and Dr Carrington for the opportunity and for organising the trip.
This year, the Prefect team’s goals include working towards unifying our school community and planning innovative initiatives for State High’s centenary year. We can’t wait to take on the year and put our goals into action.

Peers for Academic Success

Kicking off PAS in 2021!
We started off 2021 with a bang when the Peers for Academic Success (PAS) team met during the holidays to plan for this exciting new year. But firstly, we sadly said goodbye to our amazing Year 12, 2020 PAS Leaders—Ankitha Balakrishnan, Elouise Gaffney, Julie Tran and Alex Merkel—who led the team through the challenges encountered in 2020. We thank them for their dedication, commitment, and unwavering guidance. This year, we are delighted to announce the appointment of the following new leaders into our PAS family: Year 11 students Alexander Lovisi and Trinity Pham, and Year 10 students Ashwin Somani, Petar Jovanovic and Lei-Ao Peng.
PAS will officially kick off in Week 4 with several jam-packed workshops aimed at developing skills that are extremely beneficial for effective buddy/mentor relationships and to enhance our learning. Our ‘golden’ goal this year is to provide empowering feedback. This goal will build our sense of community and embed a core value of our program: unity! We hope this will allow mentors, buddies and leaders to grow and develop academically and socially within our learning community.
So, with loads of new initiatives and a busy schedule, we’re pumped to make 2021 a year to remember!
