Year 11
Legal Studies Visit Queensland Parliament on Queensland Day
On Thursday 6 June, Year 11B Legal Studies students, accompanied by Ms Coleman and Mrs Butler, visited Queensland Parliament — made extra special by it being Queensland Day.
Students were lucky to witness the buzz of the day, including a press conference by the Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli, who stopped to chat with several students.
A highlight was time spent with local state member Dr O’Shea, who spoke with students about housing, homelessness, and her journey into politics. She also gave advice on pathways into political careers.
Students had the chance to sit in the Legislative Assembly, helping them visualise where current members of parliament sit and how the chamber operates. They also took part in a hands-on lawmaking activity, gaining a clearer understanding of how laws are proposed, debated and passed.
It was a valuable day of real-world learning that brought legal and political processes to life.
