Partnerships and Transitions

Term 2 has been full of momentum in Partnerships & Transitions! Mid-year always brings a burst of activity, with many Year 11 students kicking off vocational education pathways and traineeships.

Our Year 10 Trade Tasters program with TAFE Queensland rolls on next term. This is our second group of students attending TAFE one day a week over 10 weeks to gain hands-on experience across a range of technical trades. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to explore vocational pathways and discover what suits their skills and interests.

The future-focused extension programs, Medicus and Engeniator, have been in full swing. Year 10 and 11 students have attended valuable sessions exploring future pathways into medicine and engineering, thanks to our incredible partners at QUT, UQ, local hospitals, alumni, and expert staff.

A standout this term was the #GoHealth excursion to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, where 180+ Year 10 and 11 students participated in inspiring discussions and immersive activities across health and medical fields. External pathway providers were also present, offering students access to career insights and real-world connections.

Monday Enrichment & Term 3 Opportunities

Our Term 3 Monday Enrichment program has commenced with some exciting new additions; including Chess and UQ lectures for Math and Science! The popular Scrabble program returns—bigger than ever—with expert facilitators delivering advanced strategy and gameplay workshops.

This follows an incredible achievement at the Australian Junior Scrabble Championships in Sydney:

  • Ashwin Page: 3rd overall, U18 Australian Champion & highest game score (569)
  • Shukanya Prachi: 7th place & Most Improved Award
  • Danira De Silva: 27th place

All three will represent BSHS at the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Malaysia (30 August – 1 September 2025).

A big thank you to our Senior Mentors—your support in the Maths Extension Program this term has been outstanding. The feedback from Junior students has been glowing, and your leadership has made a real impact.

Also returning is the Barista Course, alongside a two-part Money Talk session run by one of our alumni. These sessions will cover essential financial literacy topics; budgeting, saving, and money management—supporting students to build financial confidence and independence.

Registrations welcomed by Monday 28 July
