2026 Shakespeare Ensembles’ performance of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.
Two amazing casts captivated audiences to present this contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic to our school community. The talents of many students helped to craft a modern aesthetic that communicated the story of Hamlet in an engaging and exciting way; highlighting the enduring relevance of the themes in Shakespeare’s work.
Incredibly, and as a testament to their focus and professionalism, the cast and Tech Crew were able to present a 90-minute version of the play for the evening and rehearse and perform a 60-minute version for the in-school performances and have them both be received to much acclaim!
The Shakespeare Ensemble sets out to enrich State High students’ literacy by bringing to life the texts studied as part of the school syllabus along with providing exciting extension opportunities in Drama performance, technical theatre design and publicity. This year, students even collaborated with our wonderful Fencing EC group to learn the basics of Fencing and to choregraph a duel!
Tech Crew had to opportunity to advance their skills in AV design, lighting and backstage production processes and extension Art students created beautiful props that set the scene; including a life-sized coffin and a HUGE wedding cake fit for a Royal wedding.
The Hamlet production experience was one to treasure, where, thanks to the talent, energy and collaboration of so many students, teachers and support staff some very special stage magic occurred. The result was a wonderful performance season and the forging of many new friendships that we will cherish into the future!
