Executive Principal's Welcome
Dear Parents and Guardians
I trust you are all well. The Principal and staff, whenever a term ends, reflect on the achievements and progress of the students across all year levels. Term 2 at Brisbane State High School has been a very successful one with regards to this, and you will see many examples in this final newsletter for the term.
A positive challenge for each and every newsletter publication at BSHS is what to include and what not to include. Our amazing staff, students, and the wider BSHS community (inclusive of yourselves) collaboratively work hard to achieve these consistently impressive results.
From my perspective, the standout results relate to an average attendance rate of between 90 and 95% across all year groups in Semester 1. Students in Years 11 and 12 are tracking very well in comparison to recent years’ academic attainment at this stage of the year, and Year 7 and 9 NAPLAN results in the 5 core components show an average of 70 points above the state average.
The extra-curricular life of the school is extraordinary, and the overall outcomes across sports, culture, music and the performing arts in Term 2 have been simply outstanding.
Excitement and anticipation have been building all week for the Year 12 formal, and I know that this event proved to be a fitting and memorable one for everyone involved. A reminder that the annual State High Foundation ‘Giving Appeal’ is currently occurring and any donation will be gratefully accepted.
A huge amount of time and effort from a range of staff has gone into a very positive, potential new Timetable model. Three key components are some regular ‘flexible’ learning time slots for Senior School students, a new ‘Enrichment’ block of learning for students in Years 7 to 9 and the inclusion of assemblies in a slightly shortened pastoral (ARC) period.
From my perspective, these are constructive, innovative changes which will be a more effective use of weekly time for both staff and students. The Department of Education has given BSHS approval to consult with our community and to seek feedback. I encourage you to provide your valuable feedback. The final date for this consultation period is Friday, 18 July.
Please take the time to view the BSHS Timetable Consultation Link below for further information and provide feedback on the proposed weekly structure / timetable change for 2026.
Thank you for your continued support of BSHS, which is both vital and invaluable. I hope that the term break is an enjoyable one for your family.
Warm regards
Mr Greg Pierce | Executive Principal
