Executive Principal's Welcome
Dear Parents and Guardians
I trust that you are all well as Brisbane State High School continues to make outstanding progress in Term 1 in all areas of school-life.
There have already been a number of highlights, since a smooth and focussed start to this school year.
At the QPAC ‘Concert Hall’ the annual Leadership and Learning Ceremony occurred in mid-February. This was a very successful event as we celebrated the academic achievements of our highest performing students in a range of all year levels, together with acknowledging current student leaders at Brisbane State High School.
Approximately 200 students were involved as recipients, while our Choir and Orchestra revelled in this special environment. From my perspective it is a very positive challenge to have, where defining these students who are excelling within each year group is an exceedingly difficult task due to the consistently high overall standard for our students.
Last year the incredibly proficient and professionally committed staff at Brisbane State High School collectively in working with our 2024 Year 12 students produced unprecedented academic results including;
- Overall % increase of students gaining an ATAR of 62.55 and above, 78.85 and above, 91.15 and above and 98.85 and above, all increased by an average of 4%
- This is a first time since 2020 that this trend has occurred
- No subject had an overall achievement rate of less than 70% and 16 subjects were 85% and above
To lead a school with both staff and students of this calibre is indeed a privilege.
Currently students in Year 7 and 9 are in their final preparations for their upcoming NAPALN assessments, which I am sure will again produce consistently outstanding levels of attainment.
In the extremely rich and busy extra -curricular life of the school, our students continue to excel in a range of activities in both GPS and QGSSSA competitions including girl’s and boy’s Cricket, Debating, Boys Volleyball and Girls AFL and Rowing.
Brisbane State High School musicians continue to dominate local and regional competitions together with our Dance Troupe. The incoming Year 7 cohort has definitely quickly become involved in this holistically important aspect of what being a State High student in all about, as evident by over 100 of them signing up to ‘Debating’!
The spirit of Brisbane State High School is well and truly alive as our 3,600 students collectively work with our fantastic staff to produce great outcomes for our community.
Warm regards
Mr Greg Pierce | Executive Principal
