Executive Principal's Welcome

Another extremely busy and productive term has been completed at Brisbane State High School. It never ceases to amaze me what, in practical terms, occurs in a typical week at this special place.

In academic terms, this is always a crucial time for students who are required to juggle and prioritise their commitments, particularly if they are also involved in the extra-curricular life of the school. From my perspective, developing the ability to balance these demands is a vital life skill as students prepare to enter an increasingly complex adult world. One needs to maintain balance, ensure that a healthy lifestyle is maintained, and allocate time for hobbies and passions.

In today's world, students need to leave high school with a rich mix of appropriate academic qualifications and highly developed personal attributes and skills. Developing good character and treating others with respect are paramount for fostering core, sustainable and positive relationships. The four core values of Brisbane State High School – Learning, Respect, Excellence, and inclusive practices of Public Education – will enable this to occur successfully.

I marvel at the confidence, skill sets, and high standards that the vast majority of our students develop and achieve here at Brisbane State High School. You will see in this newsletter many examples of these achievements across all core areas of school life.

Thank you for your responses regarding the proposed Monday restructure. These insights have been extremely valuable, but for several reasons, we are not yet in a position to trial this change. We are continuing to explore how best to utilise the Monday assembly time (which would reduce frequency and occur in the timetabled ARC session on Wednesdays) for students in all year levels. I will keep you fully updated on our progress, but please note that for Term 3, the current Monday schedule will continue.

This week is the State High Foundation’s Annual Giving Appeal. The Foundation is managed by a board of past students and parents who tirelessly campaign to support the school and deliver much-needed projects that greatly benefit our students. It would be appreciated if you could consider supporting the work of the State High Foundation by donating to this year’s fundraising appeal. Thank you for your ongoing support.

I hope you enjoy some quality family time over this term break, and I look forward to welcoming refreshed and energised students and staff back in Term 3.

Warm regards,

Mr Greg Pierce | Executive Principal
