Dear Parents and Guardians
I trust you are all well. The Principal and staff, whenever a term ends, reflect on the achievements and progress of the students across all year levels. Term 2 at Brisbane State High School has been a very successful one with regards to this, and you will see many examples in this final newsletter for the term.
A positive challenge for each and every newsletter publication at BSHS is what to include and what not to include. Our amazing staff, students, and the wider BSHS community (inclusive of yourselves) collaboratively work hard to achieve these consistently impressive results.
From my perspective, the standout results relate to an average attendance rate of between 90 and 95% across all year groups in Semester 1. Students in Years 11 and 12 are tracking very well in comparison to recent years’ academic attainment at this stage of the year, and Year 7 and 9 NAPLAN results in the 5 core components show an average of 70 points above the state average.
The extra-curricular life of the school is extraordinary, and the overall outcomes across sports, culture, music and the performing arts in Term 2 have been simply outstanding.
Excitement and anticipation have been building all week for the Year 12 formal, and I know that this event proved to be a fitting and memorable one for everyone involved. A reminder that the annual State High Foundation ‘Giving Appeal’ is currently occurring and any donation will be gratefully accepted.
A huge amount of time and effort from a range of staff has gone into a very positive, potential new Timetable model. Three key components are some regular ‘flexible’ learning time slots for Senior School students, a new ‘Enrichment’ block of learning for students in Years 7 to 9 and the inclusion of assemblies in a slightly shortened pastoral (ARC) period.
From my perspective, these are constructive, innovative changes which will be a more effective use of weekly time for both staff and students. The Department of Education has given BSHS approval to consult with our community and to seek feedback. I encourage you to provide your valuable feedback. The final date for this consultation period is Friday, 18 July.
Please take the time to view the BSHS Timetable Consultation Link below for further information and provide feedback on the proposed weekly structure / timetable change for 2026.
Thank you for your continued support of BSHS, which is both vital and invaluable. I hope that the term break is an enjoyable one for your family.
Warm regards
Mr Greg Pierce | Executive Principal

QGSSSA Sports & Girls' Activities
Congratulations to all staff and students on a fantastic term of sports at State High.
This year has seen a great number of successes with our overall results, and the large numbers of girls participating and trialing for our State High teams. A key philosophy in our sporting program is to encourage and value participation while always striving for success. This Autumn season continued our emphasis on student and staff involvement, and we were pleased to see our programs continue to grow in Term 2. BSHS was also once again the most successful school in terms of premierships and second only to BGGS in terms of participation. We are on fire this year!
Thank you to Mr Cameron Conlon (Basketball), Mr Damon Giles (Cross Country), Mr Stuart Sprott (Touch Football) and Mr. Jesse Rigsby-Jones (Football) for their tremendous work as MICs of each sport. We are fortunate to have these passionate staff members leading the way for our girls and continuing to push the standards of our programs.
Term 2 QGSSSA Highlights
- Basketball – A second year of clean sweeping of all ‘A’ premierships (Opens, 10A, 9A, 8A and 7A). We also added success in the 7B and 8B competitions which was a huge highlight for the depth of our program.
- Cross Country –11th consecutive QGSSSA Cross Country title which included premierships in the 13 years, 14 years, 16 years and Open age groups.
- Football – Premierships in Opens, Senior A and Junior A competitions. Our Intermediate team was undefeated but due to unfortunate wash outs were not awarded the title.
- Touch – Premierships in Open and Senior A competitions.
As we transition into Term 3, we are excited to launch our Winter sport program from Week 1. Rowing and Rhythmic Gymnastics will continue their preparations, while Hockey, Netball, Tennis and Volleyball will kick off on Saturday 13 July against St Peter’s Lutheran College.
PLEASE CHECK THE SPECIFIC TEAM APP FOR YOUR SPORT FOR ALL ROUND 1 INFORMATION
The venues for Round 1 (Away at St Peters) are accurate, but specific game times may change. The draw will be confirmed in Week 1 of Term 3.
Term 3 is an extremely busy time in the School calendar in all aspects of BSHS life. We encourage all students to look ahead and take some time for personal organisation, considering the potential challenges and busy periods that lie ahead. We want to engage in conversations with our students and offer support in managing their commitments during these demanding times.
We extend our gratitude to the staff members who play important roles in our sporting programs:
QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics – We thank Mrs Rachael Slorach and Mrs Nicole Slinger for their exceptional organisation of the Rhythmic Gymnastics program. The enthusiasm has been evident from staff and students this year and we can’t wait to see their performance on Friday 8 August at the QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships.
BSRA Rowing – Thank you to Mr Tom Herborn for his ongoing leadership of the QGSSSA Rowing program in 2025. This program demands significant time and dedication, and we are grateful for the support Mr Herborn and his staff provides for our rowers. We wish our rowers the best as they embark on their annual camp these holidays. We hope you work hard and create some fantastic memories.
The following staff members have been and will continue to serve as Masters in Charge (MICs) for Term 3, and we express our appreciation for their tremendous work so far:
- QGSSSA Hockey – Mrs Natasha Adams
- QGSSSA Netball – Ms Ava Brieschke

Football
QGSSSA Football: Five-Time Champs and a Bright Future Ahead
The 2025 girls Football season was one of both legacy and new beginnings, marked by excellence on the pitch and growth across all teams. Our Opens team claimed their fifth consecutive Premiership, a remarkable achievement that reflects not only their skill but also their unity and leadership. Early in the season, Mia O’Kane reminded the team that "pressure is a privilege", a sentiment the girls carried with them into every match. They rose to the occasion time and again, playing with grit, composure, and pride.
In the Senior division, Senior A Cerise secured the Premiership, while Senior A Navy, our second team in the Senior A division, placed third. Both teams showcasing depth, determination, and a strong team culture. Highlighting the strength within our senior program.
The program’s younger teams also delivered exceptional seasons. Both the Intermediate A and Junior A teams finished undefeated, a testament to their talent and discipline. The Junior B team placed 5th, showing consistent development and strong team spirit throughout the season with many girls playing football for the first time.
A particular highlight this year was welcoming our new Year 7 players into the Football program. Their enthusiasm, positive attitude, and willingness to learn added energy to the group and promise for seasons ahead.
While the results speak for themselves, the true success of the program lies in the way our players train, support one another, and represent the school with pride. From morning sessions to match-day victories, the girls Football program continues to thrive through a shared commitment to excellence.
The season would not have been as successful as it was without the support of our Platinum Sponsor, Queensland Pelvic Floor Centre. Their sponsorship removed the cost of entry for any girl wanting to play Football which allowed girls who would not have been able to play, the opportunity to be a part of the QGSSSA Football family.
With the female Football world so clearly growing, the positivity and encouragement it has brought to the program is amazing, with so many new faces and skill levels from all around, whether their giving it a go for fun or aiming for the Matildas, the growth in the program has it all. This development is thrilling and the future for BSHS girls’ Football is definitely something to stick around for, the future is looking bright.
The Year 12s leaving know the program is being left in the best hands!!
We would also like to acknowledge Queensland Pelvic Floor Centre for their Platinum sponsorship of the program in 2025! This sponsorship has allowed all Football girls to play for FREE this year!
QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics
We are extremely fortunate to have a strong Rhythmic Gymnastics Program at State High and several girls who have represented Australia in this sport. I was fortunate to receive an email that details the huge success of several of our alumni and current coaches.
Congratulations to BSHS QGSSSA alumni Reina Santana (Class of 2023), Elizabeth Lee (Class of 2023), Mia Strachan (Class of 2024) and Millie Hintz for being selected to represent Australia at 2025 FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 20 to 24 August.
Our Head Coach, Kerrie Mancini, will also be part of the team! These girls have been dedicated towards the QGSSSA Rhythmic Gymnastics program while enrolled at BSHS, winning 4 consecutive premierships for the Open group through 2019 to 2023.
These alumni students are also coaching this year’s RG program to give back to BSHS.
Good luck girls!!

Touch Football
Brisbane State High School Touch Football – 2025 Season Wrap-Up
The 2025 Touch Football season at Brisbane State High School was one to remember, filled with determination, teamwork, and outstanding achievements. Our players demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship throughout the season, proudly representing the school across all age groups.
A special congratulations goes to our Senior A and Open teams, who both claimed premiership titles this year! Their success is a testament to the hard work of our athletes, the dedication of our coaching staff, and the unwavering support from families and the school community. These victories highlight the strength of our program and the bright future ahead for BSHS Touch Football.
Adding to our list of achievements, seven of our players were selected to represent Met East at the State Titles – a remarkable accomplishment that highlights the individual skill and commitment of our athletes. Their selection is a testament to the high standard of Touch Football at BSHS.
We concluded the season with our much-anticipated Annual Touch Football Dinner, a night of celebration and reflection. The evening brought together players, coaches, and families to honour the season’s achievements, share stories, and recognise individual and team contributions. It was a fitting end to a fantastic year, reinforcing the strong sense of community that defines our program.
As we look ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum and continue fostering excellence both on and off the field. Thank you to everyone who made this season a success!
Go State High!
A huge thank you to all our alumni, parents, staff, and volunteers who support our programs. I would also like to thank the follow staff who went above and beyond this term in their role as MIC.

Water Polo
The 2025 State High Water Polo season has been exciting and successful. Over four action-packed weeks, our four teams—Junior A, Junior B, Seconds, and Firsts—have shown tremendous dedication, resilience, and pride. In a remarkable achievement, every team made it to the finals, with the Firsts sealing a dominant championship victory.
Our Junior teams deserve special recognition. For some boys, this was their first experience with Water Polo, and their growth over the season was outstanding. From early morning trainings in the cold to intense weekend matches, their commitment never wavered. The Junior boys put the Seniors to shame with their consistent 6:50am training arrivals, filling the grandstand with energy and focus. Their journey wasn’t without challenges—there were tough losses and narrow wins—but they showed grit, perseverance, and respect every step of the way. Their sportsmanship, coachability, and steady improvement have set a high bar for seasons to come.
The Senior teams also delivered an inspiring performance. The Seconds had a strong run, highlighted by big wins over Churchie. Several players showed outstanding growth and impact throughout the season, with sharp shooting, strong defensive plays, and the ability to step up in high-pressure moments. The team’s collective improvement and resilience were key in building momentum and securing their place in the finals.
The Firsts faced their share of setbacks—injuries, illness, and conflicting commitments—but when it counted most, the full team came together. During the season, several players from the Seconds stepped up to fill in when needed, showing great adaptability and teamwork that helped secure the Firsts a spot in the finals—thank you for your invaluable contribution. In a thrilling final against BBC, they delivered a masterclass performance, finishing with a commanding 16–5 victory. This marks the second consecutive year that State High has claimed the GPS Water Polo title—a testament to the players' determination and unity.
Special thanks go to everyone who contributed to the culture and camaraderie this season. From tournament highs to unforgettable early mornings, the memories made will last a lifetime.
Congratulations to all award winners this year for your dedication and impact on your teams. Major award recipients were Reeve Witherington and Max Blacker (Commitment to Water Polo); Nate Brown (The Cole Miller Most Promising Award) and Ryan Allen (The Outstanding Performance Award). Let’s carry this momentum forward and continue building a legacy of excellence in State High water polo.
– Ms Mary-Louise Grohn | MIC Boys Water Polo

So many Arts learning highlights to celebrate!
Senior FTVNM students with a thirst for horror films participated in a special effects workshop with Kath and Peter from Laughing Goat.
Students worked together to apply special effects techniques used in the screen industries to create some truly gruesome – and very realistic – wounds and bruises suitable for a zombie, apocalypse or action movie! Some were SO gruesome we can’t include those photos in this newsletter article in case our readers are squeamish! The FTVNM faculty looks forward to a spate of horror films next semester showcasing these new skills.
‘Hamlet’, presented by Shakespeare Ensemble (a Drama enrichment activity involving Drama students across Years 7 to 12) opened on Thursday 12 June and closed on Wednesday 18 June.
‘Hamlet’ is Shakespeare’s longest play at almost four hours, but Ms Quin condensed it into a 90 min edit for a public performance to friends, family, staff and students; and then condensed it even further into a 60 min performance for students and staff studying ‘Hamlet’ for English Literature class.
Some feedback from the audience:
“A modern day amalgam of Hamlet, unique, professional and engaging. Well done team!”
- Mr Pierce, Executive Principal
"The cast were phenomenal... It takes a lot of guts to stand up in front of your peers and perform. I especially loved the chorus, many of whom were very brave performing for an audience of much older students. It was also great to again see such a diverse cast - inclusivity is a standout feature of the Arts faculty and that should be celebrated more.
When the lights went up, the girls sitting behind me starting chatting away filling little gaps for each other – remember the king put a pearl in Hamlet’s cup but it was actually poison and that is why the queen died & yeah, but Hamlet killed her dad and that why she went mad, it was from grief – which was so lovely to hear.
I hope that the cast (and you) felt that they had engaged audiences and that all the hard work was worth it. It was brilliant!”
- Ms Green, HOD Senior English
As you head into holidays, take the time to visit QAGOMA’s exhibition ‘Wonderstruck’ where you’ll see the fruits of an experimental painting collaboration between three of our senior Visual Art students, Jamey Learmonth, Emily Parker and Sienna Moore and artist Gemma Smith.
In April at artists’ studios The Paint Factory, the students participated in an experimental painting workshop with artist Gemma Smith. The large-scale, multi-panel experiments in colour and process can be seen at GOMA when ‘Wonderstruck’ opens on Saturday 28 June.

2026 Shakespeare Ensembles’ performance of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark.
Over Weeks 8 and 9 of Term 2, over 60 Drama students, members of Tech Crew, Fencing coaches, Art students and Film and Television students collaborated with teachers and support staff to present Hamlet, Prince of Denmark in the PAC.
Two amazing casts captivated audiences to present this contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic to our school community. The talents of many students helped to craft a modern aesthetic that communicated the story of Hamlet in an engaging and exciting way; highlighting the enduring relevance of the themes in Shakespeare’s work.
Incredibly, and as a testament to their focus and professionalism, the cast and Tech Crew were able to present a 90-minute version of the play for the evening and rehearse and perform a 60-minute version for the in-school performances and have them both be received to much acclaim!
The Shakespeare Ensemble sets out to enrich State High students’ literacy by bringing to life the texts studied as part of the school syllabus along with providing exciting extension opportunities in Drama performance, technical theatre design and publicity. This year, students even collaborated with our wonderful Fencing EC group to learn the basics of Fencing and to choregraph a duel!
Tech Crew had to opportunity to advance their skills in AV design, lighting and backstage production processes and extension Art students created beautiful props that set the scene; including a life-sized coffin and a HUGE wedding cake fit for a Royal wedding.
The Hamlet production experience was one to treasure, where, thanks to the talent, energy and collaboration of so many students, teachers and support staff some very special stage magic occurred. The result was a wonderful performance season and the forging of many new friendships that we will cherish into the future!

Senior Music Students Visit SAE Creative Media Institute
Earlier this term, our Senior Music students had the opportunity to visit SAE Creative Media Institute in West End for an unforgettable experience inside their world-class recording and production studios. The excursion offered students an inspiring glimpse into the professional music and audio industry, as they toured cutting-edge facilities and engaged with experts in sound engineering, music production, and film foley.
Throughout the day, students explored how sound is captured, mixed, and manipulated across different media, and gained valuable insight into the creative and technical processes that shape the music and film industries. From seeing the technology in action to hearing stories from industry professionals, the visit sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among our budding musicians and producers.
It was a beautiful day of hands-on learning, connection, and inspiration—and we’re excited to share that the partnership with SAE will continue. Next term, our students will return to record their own original compositions in the studio, bringing their classroom learning into a real-world, industry setting.
We are incredibly grateful for this brilliant industry connection and the chance to offer our students such authentic, future-focused experiences in music.
Year 7 & 8 Students Inspired by Musica Viva Performance
Our Year 7 and 8 Music students were recently treated to a vibrant live performance from Musica Viva titled Music of the World. This captivating concert featured a dynamic three-piece ensemble who took students on a musical journey through Celtic melodies and global soundscapes.
The performance was both engaging and educational, sparking curiosity and excitement among students. They were inspired by the energy and versatility of the musicians, and the unique instruments and styles showcased throughout the session.
Following the concert, students have been enthusiastically learning to play the traditional Italian dance, the Tarantella, in class—bringing the experience full circle from listening to performing.
It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with professional musicians and experience the joy of live music. A big thank you to Musica Viva for bringing such rich and diverse musical traditions into our classrooms.
– Ms Courtney Quigg | Year 8 Music and Year 11 Accelerated Music

Legal Studies Visit Queensland Parliament on Queensland Day
On Thursday 6 June, Year 11B Legal Studies students, accompanied by Ms Coleman and Mrs Butler, visited Queensland Parliament — made extra special by it being Queensland Day.
Students were lucky to witness the buzz of the day, including a press conference by the Queensland Premier, David Crisafulli, who stopped to chat with several students.
A highlight was time spent with local state member Dr O’Shea, who spoke with students about housing, homelessness, and her journey into politics. She also gave advice on pathways into political careers.
Students had the chance to sit in the Legislative Assembly, helping them visualise where current members of parliament sit and how the chamber operates. They also took part in a hands-on lawmaking activity, gaining a clearer understanding of how laws are proposed, debated and passed.
It was a valuable day of real-world learning that brought legal and political processes to life.
– Ms Christie Butler | Legal Studies Teacher

NAIDOC Week
The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy
NAIDOC Week
6 to 13 July 2025
The NAIDOC journey began as a movement for recognition and rights, sparked by Indigenous communities who saw a future built on justice and equality. Over the decades, it has grown into a powerful national celebration, a testament to the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year is the 50-year legacy of NAIDOC. NAIDOC celebrations consist of range of traditional and contemporary activities. There are many gatherings of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people coming together to celebrate and share with non-Aboriginal people the strengths of its First Nations People. This important event helps build positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, enabling a deeper understanding of our differences and similarities. NAIDOC week is an opportunity for all Australians to eliminate bias and discrimination by reflecting and reconciling the wrongs of the past to facilitate hope and build a fairer future.
We encourage our State High community to get involved in the upcoming NAIDOC Week community events. Artie is also holding NAIDOC community event on Friday 11 July at Musgrave Park.
Students and families can also follow Artie via their social media pages, namely instagram: @ARTIEACADEMY and TikTok @ARTIEACADEMY, for more updates.
For some more details about upcoming local events click here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/local-events/local-naidoc-week-events
Brisbane State High School will also be continuing the 2025 NAIDOC Week celebrations in Week 1 of Term 3. We are grateful to have Aunty Jeanette Fabila lead our school assemblies on Monday 14 July, along with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students sharing about NAIDOC 2025. Throughout this week we will also be launching the Indigenous Literacy Foundation Book Swap which will be held Tuesday to Thursday lunch times (see StudentNet for locations). Books will be $1 each and all funds raised will be contributed to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. On Friday 18 July we will also be holding a QATSIF Floral Friday Sausage Sizzle (I Block), along with a student arts activity.
All funds raised on Friday will go to QATSIF organisation.

Congratulations to Lillian Chen, who was selected to represent Brisbane State High School as one of only 60 students from across Queensland chosen to attend the Department of Education’s 2025 STEM Girl Power Camp, held from 19 to 23 May in Brisbane.
Throughout the camp, students engaged in innovative STEM workshops, explored industry sites like Cross River Rail and the Ecosciences Precinct, and connected with inspiring female role models from fields such as engineering, quantum technologies, and medicine.
They also participated in hands-on activities, including biomedical research at SPARQ-ed and science outreach with primary students. The experience fostered leadership, collaboration, and STEM communication skills. As 2025 STEM Ambassadors, students will now plan and lead a STEM event during National Science Week.
Reflecting on the camp, Lillian shared, “I was nervous at first, but I met so many amazing girls who shared my passion for STEM. From quantum physics workshops to panels with women in science, the experience opened my eyes to the vast world of STEM careers.”

STEM Ambassadors – Semester Highlights
Exploring Science, Innovation and Real-World Impact
This semester, Brisbane State High School’s STEM Ambassadors are leading a range of exciting science and engineering investigations, each focused on solving real-world problems through research, creativity, and collaboration.
Our students are currently working toward their Silver CREST Awards from CSIRO, a nationally recognised student-led STEM inquiry challenge, along with planning for STAQ and AUSSEF competitions. Our ambassadors are in the early stages of planning for an inspiring 2025 National Science Week, themed “Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language.”
Here are a few insights into student projects:
Bioremediation
Students are testing water from Wivenhoe Dam and the Brisbane River, to compare these water sources and trial aquatic plants such as Duckweed, Vallisneria, and Elodea to purify the water naturally – demonstrating how ecosystems can help address pollution.
Self-Healing Bioplastics
Students are creating biodegradable plastics using materials like grass and compost. They assess how well the plastic “self-heals” after damage and focus on keeping the materials affordable, durable, and eco-friendly.
Effect of Salt Concentration in Water
Student investigation on how added salt changes conditions in water reservoirs – including effects on bacteria, aquatic plants, water circulation, and freezing points – offering insight into the impact of salinity on natural systems.
Nature’s Batteries
Exploring sustainable energy, this group tests whether citric acid from lemons can power batteries. The project aims to uncover cleaner alternatives to traditional chemical-based batteries.
pH and Water Temperature
This student group is exploring how temperature influences pH levels in water. Even small changes in temperature can significantly affect ecosystems and scientific measurements.
Reforestation with Drones
Students design a drone-based solution for reforestation, where drones drop seeds into inaccessible areas. It’s a cutting-edge approach to regenerating landscapes quickly and efficiently.
Caffeine and Memory Recall
This student investigation examines how caffeine affects memory. Students conduct recall tests with and without caffeine to see whether it enhances cognitive performance – a question many students wonder about during exams.
This semester has been filled with curiosity, innovation, and real-world problem-solving. We are proud of our STEM Ambassadors for their initiative and passion, and we’re excited to see where their discoveries lead next.
Stay curious!

The Junior Leader Team has achieved many successes this term, including the work towards the completion of our year long goal, commitment to a variety of events, and the organisation of school community building oriented activities.
Among the Junior Leader Team, we have attended several events, which include the National Reconciliation Week Sausage Sizzle and Book Swap on the 30 May, the Year 12 100 Days Bake Sale and set up on the 4 June, the Year 8 Dance on the 5 June, the Men’s Mental Health Week Breakfast, the Student Leadership Forum, and WoW Week Toy Drive and SRC Push Up Challenge.
The Year 12 100 Days Bake Sale was a great opportunity for the Junior Leader Team to bond over a fun and rewarding experience, baking together and actively selling sweet treats to the school community and preparing the sausage sizzle for the Year 12 celebration.
We thoroughly enjoyed supporting the Prefects in running the Year 8 Dance, dressing up for the pyjama party, taking photos with the backdrop we helped to build, dancing, singing and running activities with other Junior Leaders and the Year 8 students.
The Junior Leader Team collaborated with other leadership groups to organise and independently run activities for the Junior School, with insightful discussions surrounding WoW Week Lunchtime activities during our weekly Wednesday meetings.
We have successfully run these Junior School activities under I block at lunchtime, which have included musical chairs, karaoke, limbo challenges, cup pong, party games, and many other engaging and exciting activities for Junior participation.
We advertised and influenced the Year 8 future Junior Leader selection process and are in the process of organising a Junior slams! We are undergoing the planning and implementation of five longterm Team Goals and suggested collective feedback on the Brisbane State High School House System.
Overall, as the Junior Leadership Team we plan and engage in activities, delegate responsibilities, schedule activities for WoW Week and the Junior School and have familiarised ourself with the assembly layout. We have had an amazing term succeeding in many courses of action, ultimately, having great fun and connecting with each other among the Junior Leader team, making lasting friends and memories!

Insurance Notice
The BSHS P&C Association has a proud history of supporting our students to reach their full potential. Each year, the P&C makes a significant financial contribution to the school to assist with this.
Previously, the P&C has provided additional student protection insurance to the students of BSHS. This is not a requirement of P&Cs Qld, nor of Education Queensland. It is also not a requirement of BSHS participation in GPS or QGSSSA sporting activities. This year, and in line with several other society cost of living increases, the premium for this insurance policy has risen dramatically.
The BSHS P&C has investigated options and uptake of this policy and concluded that the cost of the policy premium exceeds the benefits to the school community. As such, at the July General P&C meeting, the membership voted to not renew the student insurance policy for 2025 and to redirect those funds to support the school in other ways.
Please be aware that the current student insurance policy provided by the BSHS P&C Association will expire on Saturday 1 March 2025 and will not be renewed going forwards. Thank you for your ongoing contributions to the BSHS school community.

Event Description
We know times are tough for many right now, which is why we’re so grateful for every bit of support we receive. Our canteen is more than just a place to eat – it’s a gathering spot, a place of connection and comfort. Unfortunately, our screens have seen better days, and we’re raising funds to replace them so we can continue serving our community in the best way possible.
Why are we fundraising?
Come October, Microsoft changes mean all our canteen screens will stop working - and replacing them isn't cheap. We need your help to keep the canteen running smoothly for our students and staff.
Here's how you can help
Every dollar goes directly to support our P&C, $5 or $8 or any amount you can spare. Buy a ticket today. We appreciate your support!

Acclaimed Psychologist- Karen Young- Parent Seminar- Holding Strong, Loving Boundaries (Including Social Media and Screens) |
Dear Parents and Carers from Across the Brisbane City Collective Schools Big feelings and the behaviours that often come with them are part of growing up, but when emotions run high, even the strongest parent-child connection can feel the strain. Boundaries matter. So does connection. The challenge? How to hold your ground without losing your connection and influence in the process. As parents and carers, we want to hold firm, loving boundaries, but how do we do this in a way that deepens connection, holds them safely, and protects their willingness to turn to us? This seminar is here to help….. We have invited acclaimed psychologist, Karen Young, to Windsor State School to host a parent seminar on the evening of Thursday 14 August 2025. The topic of her seminar for parents and carers will be, ‘Holding Strong, Loving Boundaries (Including Around Social Media & Screens) While Preserving Influence and Connection’. It will be about leading with presence, connection and confidence. To view a flyer outlining the content of the evening in detail, please click here. This seminar, has a different focus to Karen's well-attended and well-received parent seminars from 2022, 2023 and 2024. However, there are some key themes that will be reinforced, as they are highly important for enabling our students to develop with our guidance and support as adults. There will be many key takeaways for parents, carers and staff to implement when working to support our wonderful students. Historically, these events have seen very strong ticket sales, so please look to opt-in early to secure your seat. Date: Thursday 14 August, 6.30 – 8.00pm Tickets are available for purchase exclusively via the Qkr! App via the below path: Windsor SS > School Payments > Payments > 2025 Karen Young Parent Seminar Don’t have Qkr! Please see the following link for set up information- How to set-up Qkr! Parents who are unable to access Qkr! from City Collective Schools other than Windsor SS are welcome to email tjohn353@eq.edu.au to notify of planned attendance and then pay via EFTPOS at the front desk on the evening. A list of all parents and carers that have paid via Qkr! will be kept at the door on the evening of the event as a record of who has purchased a ticket. Please present to the sign-on desk upon arrival. You may purchase multiple tickets in each transaction via the 'add to cart' function. |
